How These Calculations Were Made

First, we calculated the cost of a 'standard' Window Saver.  We assumed a 3'x4' window having a 14 foot perimeter.  We assumed 1/8" Plexiglas at a cost of $1.50 per square foot. The total cost for that window was $43.86.Then we calculated the energy lost by two same-sized windows without Window Savers in each city one normal, and one with serious draftiness.  We used 'degree day' data from the Weather Bureau, and assumed single-pane glass except in Minneapolis (where we assumed insulated glass).  We assumed oil heat and electric air conditioning for all. We then assumed Window Savers on each of those windows and compared the value of the energy they saved to their cost. The formula and degree-day charts we used to calculate heat loss are available upon request.  These would enable you to do your own calculations.  Just call us.
